INTRO CLIP: audience moving outside following the first 15 minutes of the show (which were staged inside)
I. PROLOGUE: SEMELE & THE STRANGER (2 min 15 seconds)
having begged her lover zeus to appear in his godlike form, semele is blasted by lightning / her son, the god dionysus, comes in disguise to punish thebes for refusing to a) believe that semele was impregnated by zeus & b) recognize him as a true god
II. WEDDING DRESS: WINE & HONEY (2 min 30 seconds)
having disguised pentheus as a woman so that he may spy on the maenads, dionysus initiates him in wine & honey (briefly followed by clips of semele’s wine dance & dionysus calling to the maenads to destroy pentheus)
